but honestly, as old as Lom and Kwouk are - especially Lom! - you can't expect them to be involved in a film like this in anything bigger than a cameo appearance, anyway, can you??! Yes, I understand. Which is why it's hard for me to watch the new ones. It makes me sad, that's all. Sorry.

A Pink Panther movie without Sellers as Clouseau isn't obviously the same, but honestly, considering how people feel about Benigni and Wass, those actors aside, the post-Sellers Panther films up to SonOTPP still felt genuine at least because Herbert and Burt were part of it, reprising their previous roles.
Without judging Martin's performance, the Panther films just don't feel the same, not only because it's a different kind of Clouseau, but it's just a completely different series and movie with nothing relating it to the original classics. Clouseau and Sellers aside, there are only so many things a new Pink Panther film could go on with. I was so excited when I first heard about the sequel because at that time it was strongly rumoured (well, in Herbert's case, based on his own remark in an interview) that Herbert and / or Burt were going to feature in the new movie. It just can't be a real Panther film. I enjoy watching it as a fun movie to kill an hour on, but when I watch it I feel a bit bitter. I know the whole point of the new Panther movies is to reinvent the series and reboot the franchise for a new generation of interest.. really though...

Thank you for your kind feedback. Yes Clouseau the photos you saw on the website are hotlinked which is why some of them may be blocked, but I am in the process of copying those files to the website. There's alot more to come. Thanks.
Haven't heard anything about that IMDB quote; I didn't even know he had children.

Hello. You may or may not be aware that I had been in the process of creating a Pink Panther fan webpage. At present this project is on a short hiatus until I can dedicate more time to gather more details and consider how I'm going to approach the website, because there's about a thousand other Pink Panther websites out there. Anyway, I have revisited my long considered idea of a Herbert Lom fan website on the Internet purely dedicated to his work, rather than a section of a Pink Panther website or a wikipedia article etc. I am pleased to announce the general website is now online. There is still alot more information to come and alot more sections, but I hope you may bookmark it and refer to it in the future and provide your feedback. It is simple, but I hope it may be appreciated as a humble dedication to this fine actor. www.geocities.com/herbertlomfanI have also provided a direct link to this board on the main page. Thanks for your interest. Regards, Ben

Today I watched "Curse of the Pink Panther" again. Last night I watched part of "King Solomon's Mines", but I'll watch it all again tonight, a great movie, with Herbert Lom. This is the 1985 edition with Richard Chamberlain, there's about three different versions I think so make sure you look out for the right one if you ever want to find it. The movie gets dismissed as being a direct rip off from "Raiders of the Lost Ark" but it's almost like a parody and has great adventure and comedy as well. Even the introductionary theme music, before the movie even properly begins, is a highlight because it's such a rip off of the Indiana Jones theme.

I watched "The Dead Zone" last night, helps if you have the book, but by itself, the movie does have a nice dark edge to it, but the storyline seems really rushed, they cut out so much of it, alot of the most significant conversations and encounters were left out or left too brief, but good movie, and Christopher Walken and, of course, our man Mr Herber Lom, save the movie with great performances.
"King Solomon's Mines" has arrived in the post, featuring Mr Lom, so I'll watch that later this week.

The last Pink Panther movie I watched was "Revenge of the Pink Panther", I don't watch that one alot. Always fun.
Yesterday in the post I received two related DVDs... "Around the world in 80 days" starring David Niven, and the big one... finally, I got the german dvd of "The Fiendish Plot of Dr Fu Manchu".
I was feeling rather tired from work yesterday, I sat down and watched about 15 minutes of "Around the world in 80 days", and I thought I'd leave it at that and resume watching and finishing this movie before I went on to Fu Manchu, but I couldn't hold back any longer - I put Fu Manchu on and watched about 15 or 20 minutes of it.
I don't know what all the bad reviews are about. It's not going to make you gag from laughter like Clouseau or anything like that, but its fun, and its silly. If you can appreciate stupid humour, or if you smoke too many..er..'herbs', then you will find merit in it lol. Will have a better review though when I watch it at a time that I'm not half asleep.
Next I'm going to try track down some of Dreyfus' movies, a significant number of them appearing to be cult horror movies. I'm particularly interested to see "The Dead Zone", which stars Christopher Walken as well

Other movies I've been watching on and off are older James Bond movies, including Goldfinger and You Only Live Twice which both have small roles by Mr Kwouk, as well as "Murder by Death", "Casino Royale", "Pink Panther Strikes Again", "Curse of the Pink Panther" and "Son of the Pink Panther". Hoping to find some more non PP related movies by Peter, Herbert, David Niven and Burt. Oh actually I saw "Kiss of the Dragon" as well, with Jet Li. I had absolutely no idea Burt was in it, imagine my surprise when he had top billing in it. But its sad how much he's aged, but for the most part he still looks and sounds the same.
And I know it sounds lame but I kept waiting for him to pick up the phone and say "Inspector Clouseau's residence" lol
Hey just while I'm here, one more quick question, apart from "the Lady Killers" which has Peter & Herbert, "Murder by Death" with Peter and David, and "Casino Royale" with Peter, David, and Burt, are there any other non Pink Panther movies which feature any combination of the above actors? I'd like to see more of Peter's older movies, and David's work, and Burt, but are there any other movies which feature any of these guys together? Or if anyone can recommend any movies by David Niven in particular? I know Burt's got his Doctor Who stuff and a few other roles which I can't recall, and Herbert has Phantom of the Opera, Dead Zone and some others..

i'd like to see that sometime, too... i finally got to see Being There last night... it was very different from anything else i've seen Sellers do, but i found it to be quite amusing, and it's a very uplifting film... definitely can understand why Sellers had wanted to make it for so long! Great movie, I haven't watched it in a while. It's definitely different; it's funny in parts, but its a completely different direction for Sellers, and it is uplifting and rather inspirational, for sure I'm trying to track down some of his older movies, stuff he did with Herbert Lom before the Pink Panther, etc etc etc

FIENDISH PLOT isn't the worst comedy ever made, but most of it falls flat. There are a few good moments...mainly at the start. Mr. Sellers was far better playing in someone else's universe than trying to fashion his own from scratch. His ailing health and co-writers' relative inexperience hardly helped. There was no strong hand behind the camera to hold things together either. For all his genius, Mr. Sellers could falter when surrounded by yes-men just like anyone else. I would love to have a go at the outtakes if they survived. While I'm pleased Zev Braun has got this released on DVD in Germany, it would be nice if extra features could be located for Region 1 release. Oh nice, I didn't realise it was released on DVD somewhere, even it is unauthorized. I've got a copy of the original on video, but our VCR's broken. I'll have to try to track down the DVD. EDIT: Colonel.. any idea where I can find it? Online stores?

Only once. I can't remember which film Clouseau does this in, but a few years ago I ripped my trousers when I left my flat key (on a chain) in the door........ are you serious? that would have been so funny probably from 'the pink panther strikes back' yeah, where theres a hole in his grocery bag and the seeds spill on the floor and that lady enters the hall and he just smiles and starts dancing...oh thats classic haha
