I just puchased this film on DVD, and I noticed something strange.
At the end of the movie, when the credits roll, you can still hear Clouseau and Simone talking about reading "beumps" on someone's head. I found that unusual, because my old VHS tape (produced in 1993, like the other PP films when "Son..." came out) doesn't contain this dialogue over the end credits. So, was this some kind of "deleted lines" that were cut after theatrical release, or just for VHS release, or something that was restored for the DVD release. I found it odd.
Also, anyone notice that in the trailer for "Revenge", the announcer refers to Clouseau as "Henry Clouseau" instead of "Jacque Clouseau"?

ASITD is indeed funnier, but I like TPP '63 more. So my vote goes to TPP.

RotPP.
Best main title sequence ever after the first one. Great writing and scenes! And Plummer fits the Lytton role nicely. I can't imagine Niven in this movie.

Great, great movie. My only gripe in there, is that it is not explicitly stated that this film is/should be set before STRIKES AGAIN, because of the Dreyfus thing. Just pretend that all the events in Strikes Again (except for the pre-opening credits part where Dreyfus chases Clouseau out of the hospital) is really part of some insane delusion that Dreyfus is having while in the institution. I also like to think that the whole movie "Inspector Clousea" was really all just a bad nightmare by Dreyfus.

I actually do like Trail. It's a great homage to Sellers who died three years earlier, and it highlights some of the best Panther moments.

Curse of the Pink Panther. Moore's cameo makes it worth seeing! Plus, seeing Wagner back.

Son of the Pink Panther. For the reasons georgelytton mentioned. I like the part in the openign credits where Henry Mancini has a cameo and hands the panther his baton. It's cool cause it's like a send-off to Henry Mancini, who would retire after this film was released, and then pass away.
And I like how in the end credits, Henry Mancini played the panther theme the traditional way with the sax riffs and horns and everything. Like an orchestra, the way it was originally done. Mancini didn't try to re-invent the theme with cheesy 70s/80s type music like he did for TRAIL and CURSE (well, ESPECIALLY Curse).
My only complaint about SON, is that they cut out a scene confirming Closeau's death. I'm not sure why they did that. Because we know Clouseau's stil alive at he end of CURSE, but we don't know much else afterwards.

The diamond in the movie has a flaw, which is what creates the illusion of a "pink panther." I'm curious though, could a flaw, that is, a bad cut, really create some kind of "image" inside the diamond. Or is it just something Blake Edwards made up.

Interessting. What I would also liek to know (maybe I make an own thread about it): Why did Sellers despise Edwards ? I think Sellers despised anybody who had a nagative opinion about any of his ideas or works (including his own daughter!). Sellers and Edwards had disagreements during all of the Pink Panther films really, and other films they made together (The Party).

BTW, at the end of The pink panther '63, Lytton says, "When the Phantom strikes again, The Inspector will be free as a bird."
I figure Clouseau being back on a case in A Shot in the Dark, meant the Phantom already struck again.

with the King, there's also a scene where he's listening in on someone else's phone call, and i didn't quite understand what that was about, either... i really hate the idea that i might actually have to watch it again and try to figure it out on my own... Have you tried reading the movie's subtitles?

Hey, do you know if the "Son of the PP" DVD has the deleted scene with Clouseau's ghost? It probably doesn't, as Blake Edwards said he hated that scene, so it probably wasn't added.

Well, so far I've also purchased recently PPSA, and Revenge of the PP, and both have only the trailers, and production photographs. No commentary by Blake Edwards on either one. Dang.
I was actually hoping maybe the deleted scenes from PPSA would be put in the special features section, but instead we have to satisfied with what we see in Trail.
