The diamond in the movie has a flaw, which is what creates the illusion of a "pink panther." I'm curious though, could a flaw, that is, a bad cut, really create some kind of "image" inside the diamond. Or is it just something Blake Edwards made up.

Hmm, you mean a flaw when the diamond was actually being cut? I'm not sure if the diamond was meant to have the image of the panther.

I'm not sure if the diamond was meant to have the image of the panther. whether it was meant or not, i think brandon's qustion is, is it realistic to think that a diamond could have a flaw that looks like a panther? i dunno... maybe someone should ask a jeweler... *shrug* EDIT: there is a description of types of diamond flaws here... nothing seems to suggest that seeing a panther in a diamond is definitely possible/impossible, but i kinda get the impression that if the diamond had a garnet or a cluster of pinpoints, it might not be all that far-fetched to see a pink panther in a diamond... with a little imagination, at least, perhaps... you know how people are always seeing things in the clouds... hope that's helpful...
