oh, i'm sure i'll buy the DVD to keep my collection complete... just a question of whether or not i feel like i can afford to bother with it in theaters when i know Duplicity is coming soon and it looks so much better...

The International starring Clive Owen, it was fairly average. I thought it was Duplicity, so was a bit dissapointed when I realised it wasn't. heh, guess that's what happens when the lead actor is in two films released within just over a month of each other... doesn't help that they're advertising Duplicity 4 times an hour on every TV station 3 weeks before it's even coming out! i've seen a lot of mixed feelings over The International... normally i'd have seen it opening weekend, but i knew Duplicity was coming, and it looks like the more interesting of the two to me, so i'm saving a little cash and waiting for Duplicity for now (though i may break down and see The International before too long, if i can't stand it)... will you still be going to see Duplicity now?

i voted for Cleese... the new Dreyfus is a lot more "stiff" than the way Lom played him, but IMO, Cleese is much better at playing "stiff" than Kline was... the way Kline talked in some scenes - the way he broke up his phrases - just grated on my nerves... maybe it's just that i'm used to seeing Cleese play "stiff" characters in other films, or maybe it's just his aura or something, but he just seems a lot more comfortable with the character than Kline ever was...

i think, although it was funny, the bits with Clouseau caught on camera sneaking around the mansion were kind of a weak point... they were more silly/absurd bits than what i would really hope for... i don't have a problem with Clouseau being clutzy, but for instance, when he's running on top of the globe, i just don't see the point in throwing in something like that... at least normally you can see how Clouseau gets into things... usually his funny situations are the result of some domino effect triggerred by something relatively small... these bits were just a little too over-the-top for me...
i'd be happy if we'd see more little things, like slamming his hand on a desk when he's making a point, but inadvertently slamming it into a dish, either getting his hand covered in something gooey or sending the dish flying through the air or something like that... or running into the wall behind a door when he meant to go through an open door... little silly moments like that are worth a lot more to me than these bigger, more obvious gags...
ah well...

Anyway, is there an explanation about the Pink Panther belonging to the museum & not Xania..? i don't think it's explicitly stated, but it's not a far leap of the imagination to believe that she either donated it or (more likely, IMO) had it on loan to the museum... it's not really a big problem, IMO... how did the diamond end up in a museum in RetOTPP when it was previously owned by the Princess in TPP63? i think it's interesting that in both of the new films, the diamond is mentioned as "the symbol of French pride" or something like that, whereas in the previous series, it had nothing to do with French pride - it just happened that a Frenchman was the one who recovered it...

i can agree with that... i was a little surprised that it was only PG for the same reason... it's a sad commentary on our declining society when that much sexual content gets through on PG, but they threatened to make Facing the Giants PG-13 just because it had "religious themes"...
but at the same time, it's not like we had nudity or anything, so i dunno...
still a funnier film than most people give it credit for!
