...so why the hell make new movies with a hasbeen actor who's never been that good anyway?i find that to be a very debatable point, since Martin has long been one of my favorite actors, but that's perhaps also a question/debate for another thread... thread title has been changed to RUMORS, so let's just keep this thread for any rumors we want to talk about concerning the possibility of a new movie and who might be cast, etc., but if you have genuine news of any sort or think you might, please give it its own thread...

this is all very interesting, but perhaps this thread is a bit derailed... let's try to use this thread for discussion of the likelihood/sanity of casting Ed Helms has a new Clouseau, and if there are new rumors or news about the possibility (or lack thereof) of a new Panther film in the works, lets give news articles and such threads of their own so that people can continue talking about specific items without too much confusion... that, or we can just rename this thread "rumors", and post all rumors here, but we still need to post any real news in its own thread to keep it all straight, ok?

it's interesting to think someone considered Rowan Atkinson for Clouseau that long ago...
Rowan Atkinson, Ted Wass, or Dudley Moore - who would have been the best choice in 1981?

welcome aboard, Mr. Topaz... things are certainly quiet around here at the moment, but we're always happy to see a new face! personally, i'm not sure about Dudley playing Clouseau... i loved him in 10, and i recently re-watched the Arthur movies and thought they were hilarious, but i agree Dudley's Clouseau would probably have been more cartoonish than Sellers', and that's precisely what i don't think the series needed... Wash and later Benigni were extremely cartoonish, and i think we kinda lost the spirit of what the series was like, to an extent... he was probably right, too, that he would always have been in Sellers' shadow... while they missed the mark by going too cartoony with the lead characters, i think it was wise to at least change the lead character after Sellers died... i like Steve Martin, but a lot of people still complain that you just can't replace Peter Sellers... incidentally, you may find these threads particularly interesting: therapeuticpink.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=342therapeuticpink.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=338hope to see you around, and feel free to chime in anywhere you like! EDIT: here is another thread about Dudley Moore as Clouseau therapeuticpink.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=pantactdis&action=display&thread=131I am locking this thread, and further discussion can continue in the older thread...

think Martin will be a little old for a third film. he's been white-haired for 30 years, who will know the difference?

thanks so much for sharing! i haven't been able to find it on my local listings, so this is the first episode i've seen!
have to say, i thought the little Friz man was a lot meaner than he needed to be - a little out of character, IMO - but i was happy to see that it was a dialogue-free cartoon, and it well resembled the original cartoons, so that was good... i don't know that i need to own the show on DVD or anything, but i wouldn't mind watching a little if i caught it on TV...

well i'm not in favor of Mike Myers, either, but i agree that Ed Helms isn't quite right...
that said, i know that quote's been on Wikipedia for a while, but i haven't seen a source for it anywhere else, which makes me doubt the validity of the claim... we'll see...

well this was certainly... interesting... for a kids album, it's not all bad... it was humorous to think of the Pink Panther playing a Pink Floyd song, and some of hte covers were tolerable as long as i kept reminding myself it was aimed at kids... the introduction to Panther on the Prowl was certainly creative, though maybe it's just me, but their Clouseau reminded me more of a bad Pepe Le Pew impersonation than of Peter Sellers... i have to say, though, that the Pink Panther Theme was probably the best track on there, and i only wish i could cut out the "Pink Panther Punk Pink Panther" chant spoken over top of the early part of the song... thanks once again for posting the link, Inspector!
