coinciding with the beginning of Hockey season, FoxSports is running a story on how some NHL players got their nicknames... amidst the rest, i found this snippet i thought was amusing...

Beware of the closet
The year was 1978 and the Philadelphia Flyers were on a flight from Toronto to Vancouver. For an in-flight movie, the Flyers squad was treated to a showing of "Revenge of the Pink Panther." It seems defenseman Kevin McCarthy was certainly affected by the film.
During their stay in Vancouver, McCarthy would look for opportunities to emulate the movie's character Cato Fong. He would hide in hotel room closets and anywhere else possible, and when unsuspecting teammates would open the door or come near, he'd leap out and attack them — and subsequently scare the hell out of them, to boot.
Fellow Flyer Paul Holmgren dubbed McCarthy "Cato," and that has continued to follow him all across the NHL for almost 30 years now.
