leading up to the 40th Anniversary of the Pink Panther franchise, artist Shag recreated the Pink Panther character for PP marketing purposes... this "retro" looking Panther was featured in books and other merchandise, and for a while was even featured on the official Pink Panther website (prior to the announcement of TPP06)... here are examples of Shag's "retro" Pink Panther: then, prior to the release of TPP06, Sean Levy and the Pink Panther producers asked CGI studio Nexis to create a "3-D" title sequence for the new movie, so Nexis again recreated the character... this proposed title sequence was dropped in favor of a more traditional title before the film hit theaters, but is available on the Special Edition DVD for TPP06... here are examples of Nexis' "3-D" Pink Panther: so which one do you think is better? personally, being so much a fan of the "traditional" panther from the theatrical shorts of yesteryear, it's a tough decision for me... both are artistically interesting, and IMO, both are still respectful to the original vision... i think i'm gonna have to think about it a while longer before i cast my vote! ;D

I like the retro cover. On the R2 dvd box set they have a really cool cover with all the characters from the films in retro form. Thats not a great picture but its kind of like that.

I like the CGI version, since it reminds me more of the one from the cartoons.

I like the CGI version, since it reminds me more of the one from the cartoons. you forgot to register your vote at the top, there! i think i agree, though... the "retro" look is interesting, but the "3-D" Panther is more interesting to me... i very much enjoyed the title sequence they made with the 3-D Panther, too, though i'm glad they kept to the traditional style when they released the film... according to the commentary, they were even at one time debating whether to include a title sequence at all! i hope they always do title sequences for PP movies in the future, and to be honest, i hope they always do the traditional style for it, too... it just feels better that way, IMO...

I don't like either, to be honest. I guess the 3-d one, since it is more like the one I'm used to.

i think its weird that you didnt like either one, professor, espeically since you have a 3d panther in your avatar! i liked both, really! i just liked the 3d better than the other one. i still think the regular one from the 60s is the best of all, though.

I like the retro style; it's very elegant-looking and for some reason makes me think more of the movies, probably because of the R2 boxset mentioned. If the R1 version had that artwork, I'd be tempted to get it even though I've already got nearly all of the movies contained in it in their single disc releases. Charles Dreyfus in that retro style would be neat.
