as promised, i've perused the pages of Pink Panther: The Ultimate Guide to the Coolest Cat in Town, and i'm ready to give my review...
Hardcover
November 2005
146 pages
this coffee-table book is packed with pictures and information on all-things Pink Panther, from films to cartoons to Pez dispensers...
here's how it breaks down... after the Forward written by Blake Edwards and the Introduction by David DePatie, the book is broken down by decade, starting in the 60s, and ending in the 21st Century... overall (by my count):
all-in-all, it's an impressive collection of Pink Panther-related photos and trivia, most of which makes for a pretty interesting read... everything is compartmentalized pretty well, and the pages are not wall-to-wall text, so it's nice if you only wanna sit and look at it for a few minutes, but there's enough content to keep you busy for several hours if you take your time...
my only complaint is that while each Pink Panther film is mentioned in the book, RetOTPP (1975) is the only one that didn't get at least 2 pages to itself... if IC (1968), CotPP (1983), and SotPP (1993) all get it, why shouldn't Ret, being one of the better films of the series, get the same treatment? it doesn't even get ONE full page to itself! only a passing mention once or twice, and then a paragraph-length synopsis - like the other films - near the end of the book!
i noticed one typo - though i admit, i haven't read every page fully yet - but it wasn't critical, so it's not really an issue...
one warning, be forewarned that this book is full of spoilers about both the films and the various cartoons... if you do not wish to know about a particular film before viewing it, DO NOT read the pages devoted to that film in this book, and if you do not wish to know how certain cartoons turn out, you may want to avoid some of the cartoon pages until you've seen what you want to see...
in conclusion, for the roughly $12 i spent for it at Amazon, this is a great buy, and i highly recommend it to anyone interested in all things Pink Panther (which would be the majority of members here, no?)...
