After a long drawn out and very public process, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer confirmed yesterday that a federal bankruptcy court has approved a prepackaged bankruptcy plan in which its lenders will exchange nearly $5 billion in debt for ownership of the company...

Now it's been mentioned, Williams would have been a good choice. I'd never even considered him with the character.

Nevertheless, by 1996 MGM started asking Robin Williams and Jim Carrey about the series. MGM would cut a deal for a new Panther with Edwards (allowing the film to proceed without his participation) in 1997. Amazingly, it would take nine years and many more prospective Clouseau's before the Inspector and the Panther returned to the screen. I would really like to know how the new Pink Panther movie developed over the nine years, colonel93

it's interesting to think someone considered Rowan Atkinson for Clouseau that long ago... Rowan Atkinson, Ted Wass, or Dudley Moore - who would have been the best choice in 1981?

Interestingly, David DePatie was interviewed last week in Gig Harbor's local paper. He mentioned that the script for Steve Martin's third Panther film is about a third of the way there. Obviously the state of MGM needs to be resolved before anything would move forward, but this is the first trustworthy remark we've had that a third film is planned. how much did Pink Panther 2 make worldwide ? and do we know who is writing the third film ?

The Third movie in the current series is in the planning stages and currently has the working titles The Pink Panther 3-D and The Pink Panther Strikes Back. Producer Robert Simmonds announced in December 2009 following the excellent DVD sales of the 2nd film his plans to continue the series and that he is talking to The Office star Ed Helms about him taking over the role of Clouseau from Steve Martin, as MGM/Columbia feels the series needs younger actors.
