Suppose you'd have to introduce someone to the PP series, which of the classic Pink Panthers would you use? I'm still in doubt wheter it should be SHOT or RETURN.

I've introduced two people to the series, the first one with A Shot in the Dark and the second with The Pink Panther Strikes Again. I'd prefer to use Strikes Again because not only was the first PP film that I ever watched (and my favorite), you can understand and enjoy it without having to see the ones that come before it first (though this could also be said for most of the other movies in the series).

Strikes Again. I introduced two friends into it. They were not big fans of the first two but they both loved Strikes Again. Its not my favourite but I think it is one of the funniest pathers.

Yes, it is funny all the way through. The first has boring parts and SHOT is a bit slow at places and Return is imo the funniest though scenes that don't feature Sellers or Lom are a bit slow though cracking Graham Stark's fingers is hilarious, so STRIKES would be the best. Still, I think one would need to know the story before watching STRIKES.

well i used ASITD to introduce my sister to the classic series, and i used Return to introduce my wife to the classic series, but that said, both had seen the new Steve Martin movie before even being interested in the older movies, so i'm torn on what to vote for... i think i'll go with ASITD, because you don't have any Panther history tie-ins really in ASITD (i.e. it doesn't matter in ASITD that Clouseau was first seen in TPP63, but in Return it almost sorta does matter a tintsy little bit)... such brilliant logic, i know, but it works for me... ASITD!

Well, I decided: ASITD. It's funnier than the first one, Clouseau's accent is already becoming silly which would evolve over the series and Cato and Dreyfus make their first appearance. For RETURN, you'd need to explain the backstory from the previous movie, where in ASITD nothing needs to be explained. So, my vote goes to ASITD!

Yep. A SHOT is the best introductory chapter. It works everytime I use to introduce Panther to my friends.
THEN, I show them all the rest. Very nice, indeed.

I usually show people "The Pink Panther Strikes Back". It's not just about Sellers' performance of Clouseau which is beyond exaggerated hence more hilarious, but you can't forget Lom with Dreyfus, they both made that film a classic.

I don't see why you can't start at the beginning! Sure, other films in the series get funnier, but the first one is decent enough in its own right, isn't it?

The first movie, "The Pink Panther", then "A short in the Dark". In chronologic order.
