Veteran funnyman STEVE MARTIN has ruled out a return to stand-up comedy.

The Father Of The Bride star has just co-written a children's book and is currently filming a sequel to his Pink Panther film, and he insists he doesn't have the time to immerse himself in the world of live comedy.

Martin says, "It really requires a complete dedication; you can't just go out for a month, you have to go out for 11 months. You have to do it every night to stay fresh and hot.

"Whenever I would do (American TV's) The Tonight Show I would always work the night before because I found that if I didn't, I would be that less sharp, even after one day off."

I can't really say I'm dissapoitned. I've seen a few of his stand up shows and don't get me wrong, they were funny but I much prefer his film work. I suppose he is getting older so it's a good enough reason to stop.

i didn't know he was still doing stand-up at all! i thought he quit back in the 70s or something! i like what ive heard from his stand up stuff, but it is different tone from most of his movies. both are good, though.
