with all this talk about there possibly being a sequel to Steve Martin's first Pink Panther film, it got me to thinking... what actors and/or characters would you like to see return if in fact Martin stays on and they do another film?
i haven't made up my mind about Jean Reno as Ponton, but i think having Kline return as Dreyfus is almost a MUST... i've also toyed with the idea of maybe having another cameo appearance for Clive Owen as Agent 006, though i'm not sure about it...
i wonder, though, if we might see other actors/characters from the earlier films coming back, if for nothing more than cameo appearances...
what do you think??

I don't want Martin as Clouseau. Kill him!
But then, it wouldn't make much sense for a PP without Martin (?) wouldn't it?
I don't know...

...but i'm saying, if Martin was for sure gonna play Clouseau in another Panther, who else who's been in another Panther movie would you like to see make an appearance, large or small??
as i was watching TPP06 last night, i thought also of Nicole... i'm thinking that i really would rather if she wasn't in the next film, because it'd be weird to have Clouseau with a steady girlfriend, but she works for the French government, so maybe there's a way to work it out where she wouldn't be too big of a player?? i dunno...

Well Kevin Kline and Jean Reno would be the two I would most like to see back. I would love to see a Burt Kwouk or Herbert Lom Cameo.

they should bring back nicole and ponton in the next one, but i think nicole should have a bigger part! i'm just not sure how that would work... the only female character that was ever carried over from another film was Maria Gambrelli, and they even had a different actress play her the second time around... it would just feel weird to break tradition like that if Mortimer comes back as Nicole... i dunno... if she comes back, that wouldn't bug me, so long as it wasn't in a huge role... i'd much raher if she became a kind of Moneypenny character (from the James Bond films) than if she were to stay and be Clouseau's gf... the problem, though, is that he's already kissed her, so the Moneypenny relationship doesn't exactly work, either... oh, for the simplicities of Francois! but then, i can't see them bringing back a Francois character, either... i dunno where they can go with the next one...

A Pink Panther movie without Sellers as Clouseau isn't obviously the same, but honestly, considering how people feel about Benigni and Wass, those actors aside, the post-Sellers Panther films up to SonOTPP still felt genuine at least because Herbert and Burt were part of it, reprising their previous roles.
Without judging Martin's performance, the Panther films just don't feel the same, not only because it's a different kind of Clouseau, but it's just a completely different series and movie with nothing relating it to the original classics. Clouseau and Sellers aside, there are only so many things a new Pink Panther film could go on with. I was so excited when I first heard about the sequel because at that time it was strongly rumoured (well, in Herbert's case, based on his own remark in an interview) that Herbert and / or Burt were going to feature in the new movie. It just can't be a real Panther film. I enjoy watching it as a fun movie to kill an hour on, but when I watch it I feel a bit bitter. I know the whole point of the new Panther movies is to reinvent the series and reboot the franchise for a new generation of interest.. really though...

but honestly, as old as Lom and Kwouk are - especially Lom! - you can't expect them to be involved in a film like this in anything bigger than a cameo appearance, anyway, can you??!

I think Lom is far too old to be acting anymore and that it's very unlikely (as much as it would be great) but Burt Kwouk is still acting. I've seen him in a few shows but again these shows don't really invlove him attacking other characters. I suppose he is in his 70s.

I'd love to see the Phantom return. I think Sam Neill would be a terrific choice.

i know the synopsis for the new film still says it has other bumbling detectives from other countries, but i was thinking, what if not all of them are bumbling? wouldn't it be nice to see Nigel Boswell again? id kinda wanna see him in a bigger part, but im afraid if they did that, itd be almost like he was the only person who could do anything right, so i dunno, but i still think hed be cool for a appearance at least. what do you think?
