Hello, bonjour, from the 2nd newest newbie on here. Out of the ones possibly to avoid, I'd personally still give Curse a go. It's by far the best and most watchable non Peter Sellers / Steve Martin one in my opinion.
The first half of Trail is interesting if you like trying to fit the deleted scenes back into PP Strikes Again in your mind. (I still can't figure where "paper catches fire in the office scene" comes from though, the idea obviously recycled in Revenge!)

All respect to Roger Moore, the perfect cameo appearance in my opinion.
It may be a dream, but I do kind of recall Roger Moore appearing as Clouseau in some kind of comedy clip wearing the Clouseau hat and moustache! Someone told me it could have been an old Muppet Show episode, but I'm not sure!

I'm from the UK, 35 years old. I got into loving the Pink Panther movies at the same time as I got into James Bond movies, at the age of about 9. Must have been about 1983, when my older brother rented For Your Eyes Only and Revenge of the Pink Panther on Betamax video! I think we also taped The Man With The Golden Gun, The Party, Casino Royale (1967 version, obviously) off the TV and an ITV celebration programme called "21 years of James Bond" to coincide with the Octopussy premiere.
Some of you may have realised I'm a big fan too (due to my screen-name) of another Frenchman, who has had a big falling out with Dreyfus. Ok, that's Jean Michel Jarre, the French keyboard musician (Oxygene, Equinoxe and Zoolook are some of his albums), famous for having record-breaking crowds measured in millions at his concerts which light up city skylines (like Houston in 1986, Paris in 1990 and Moscow in 1997). Francis Dreyfus was his record boss, but now JMJ's created his own label after a falling out. JMJ also released an album called Waiting for Cousteau, dedicated to Jacques Cousteau, in 1990. (The title track is 46 minutes of ambient music). I've read that apparently someone else parodied this release with "Waiting For Clouseau"!
So not entirely unconnected!
I play keyboards myself, and I also love painting and drawing. My favourite actors are Peter Sellers, Roger Moore and David Niven, and I have recently done some 10 minute pencil sketch portraits of them.
Anyway, this is a great discussion board, so my most sincerest pat on the back to you all for making it such a great and interesting read :-)

Funnily enough, mine was Inspector Clouseau (new but via eBay) which arrived Saturday morning, and Son of the Pink Panther (again new via eBay) which arrived this morning. Annoyingly I now have the pink purple box set of PP, ASITD, PPSA, Rev, Trail on my shelf next to Inspector Clouseau, next to Return, next to Curse, next to Son, next to The Party (and then other PS movies). Because of that box set, I can't get it Chronological !!!

Curse of the Pink Panther **** 7. Trail of the Pink Panther **1/2 8. Inspector Clouseau *1/2 (one star for the dark haired girl in the black lingerie, 1/2 for Alan Arkin!)

I have a Trail Of The Pink Panther soundtrack. However, apart from the main opening titles/credits version of the PP theme, all of the other songs are from other movies (and and doesn't actually really relate to the Trail movie). It's almost like a "best of" compilation album. I will have to go to my attic and get the CD, but off the top of my head it included the following tracks: Trail of the Pink Panther A Shot In the Dark Inspector Clouseau theme (from Strikes Again) Hong Kong Fireworks Return of the Pink Panther (Parts I and II) and forgotten the name, but the Simone ambient music from Revenge there were others too! It was the first PP soundtrack I bought (years before actually seeing Trail!), but now I have PP - Return of PP, PP Strikes Again and Revenge of PP. The tracks "Trail of the Pink Panther" and "A Shot In The Dark" are the only two that aren't featured on the other soundtracks. BTW, I live in the UK so there may be different releases in the USA.

Mine was Revenge - I think it was rented on Betamax video. I was about 8 years old at the time!!! I then got into the others - I think the order was Revenge - Strikes Again - A Shot In The Dark - PP - Return - then Inspector Clouseau by accident on TV. I've only seen Trail and Curse quite recently (in the last 6 years probably, as I got the VHS vids off eBay), and Son too, although I do recall aged 10 when Curse came out a feature on TV showing the famous Dreyfus bazooka-ing himself off the cliff stunt! My favourite used to be Return, but now its Revenge, although all of the PS ones are of a similar high quality (excluding Trail), although I have to say Strikes Again is probably my least favourite and a touch over-rated despite Lom's excellent performance. And as some of you may have realised, I have a sympathetic soft spot for Curse. I've not seen either of the Steve Martin ones yet.

Yes, but at least it would be a complete (pre Steve Martin) classic box set! I'm in the UK and have a flimsy purple/pink box set containing all the PS PP movies except Return, a separate DVD of Return, a separate of Curse (and I now have Son and Insp C on order). But it will all look a bit of a chronological mish-mash on my shelf! And reading about the cartoons reminds me of summer holiday mornings, as that's what used to be on TV over breakfast - so I'd love to see those cartoon shorts again :-)

Ok, in my mind it just didn't really instantly look like David Niven on the cover! lol

Looks like Robert Wagner on Curse - like he had a massive role in the movie! Haven't a clue who the one on the right of the Trail cover is supposed to be! And the bandage disguise wasn't actually used in Strikes Again!!!!
Not particularly great covers in my opinion!

I only really recall the Inspector, Ant & Aardvark and Crazylegs Crane. But some of the others Clouseau posted pictures of look familiar.
I would love to see an ultimate DVD collection released of all the cartoons (Pink Panther and the cartoon friends), with all the classic pre-Steve Martin movies (ie including Inspector Clouseau, Return, Trail, Curse and Son).

Just spent a couple of evenings watching Trail and Curse of the Pink Panther. I know these two movies are quite contraversial, so I thought I'd express my views.
Trail. I think this to be a fairly hastily put-together mix of outtakes, and it doesn't really work that well. I watch it thinking "Ok, that outtake is from just before this or that happened in Strikes Again".
In hindsight, as most (if not all) of the outtakes are from Strikes Again, I think a "directors cut" of Strikes Again would have been a better release. The second half with Joanna Lumley as the reporter sets up the plot for Curse, but isn't particularly funny. So the best bit is the end credits with the compilation of clips from the other movies.
Question about Trail though - were the office scenes where he reads about the PP being stolen from "Return" as I can't seem to place where they would fit into the story of Strikes Again. Following on from this, I have the script book and publicity brochure for Revenge, and I do wonder whether there are outtakes featuring Dreyfus from Revenge that were never used. Anyway back to...
Curse. Now this is a better movie than Trail in my opinion. There are a couple of weak bits - the HAL 2001 type computer at the start isn't funny, the elevator scene with the dog is like a poor attempt at the Revenge scene and the Valencia carnival goes on for far too long (for me it's like watching the Rio Carnival scene from Moonraker in slow motion!). Talking of Bond, the car chase scene I found to be reminscent of the famous 2CV car chase from For Your Eyes Only... and Roger Moore's cameo is brilliant! And Herbert Lom is on top form as Dreyfus, and Ted Wass generally impressed me. Shame it was critically slammed as I think it's a lot better movie than generally it's given credit for.
So a PPSA directors cut and a re-edited Curse (maybe using a couple of setting scenes from Trail) would have been a better release back in '82/'83 in my opinion.
Trail - interesting but a bit of mish mash... Curse - under-rated and really quite good considering! I like it - but not as much as the Peter Sellers ones, of course!)
My first post on this board - strange subject, but I will post more in the coming days/weeks :-)
