Hi,
Yesterday I finally finished watching Inspector Clouseau. I'd started it the night before, but was too tired, so I finished it yesterday.
I had never seen this before, nor heard of it before. Overall, I thought is was ok. Better than Curse and Son. But still when I watch Arkin's portrayal, I keep hearing and seeing Borat. Now I like Borat, but Sellers portrayal was not too off the edge, I don't think.
Having never seen this before, it did not have any classic scenes that stand out, from having seen something more than once. The camera/photoshoot scene reminded me of the Austin Powers.
If this movie, as it is had Sellers, I think it would be a lot better. And that is mainly because Sellers is who we think of as Inspector Clouseau, and his portrayal, as I said before, isn't as nutty as Arkin's is. Maybe it's the way he spoke...
For what it is, I thought it was OK. I'd watch it again. Probably better the second time. I think really the main low-point in this for me, was Arkin's speaking style. He sounded like he was mentally slow, and often acted as such. And Sellers wasn't.
I have seen the 1st PP movie, but it's been a while, and that's the next one I will view.
Carl
PS. I really love those small euro cars.

The best part is Ken Thorne's score and the animated titles both of which are of very high quality. The film is interesting mainly to see what was later recycled for REVENGE and for considering how much better it might have turned out with Sellers and Edwards. Alan Arkin is not a bad choice for Clouseau at all, but he needed a funnier film and a better director. I like Bud Yorkin's work elsewhere (particularly START THE REVOLUTION WITHOUT ME) but this just falls flat. Still, it's my favorite non-Sellers PANTHER by far.
