Hello
I've searched around the internet but I haven't been able to find anything about Andre, except a list of movies he's been in, up to about 1994.
Is he still alive?
I assume he is living rather low key now, like Mr Lom. I guess he'd be about 80 years old now or something right..
Does anyone have any information?

Mr. Maranne passed away before SON entered production. This is why a different actor played Francois in the film.

Oh. Sorry I considered that may have been the reality. Thanks for the information. RIP Mr Maranne.

He sure was. Its great that such great actors have been forever immortalized in your favourite movies, but its also sad when you are so enthusiastic about these classic movies but you realise so many of these people have sadly passed on, yet it just goes to show how much they affected our lives in their work, no matter how big or small their part may have been.

He's dead? For over 15 years?
Why isn't this anywhere?
RIP, Andre... Your Francois portrayal won't be forgotten...

I was told he died by Herb Tanney. Dr. Tanney has been Blake Edwards' personal physician for over forty years. Along with appearing in nearly every Blake Edwards film, Mr. Tanney can be seen as the Nice Police Chief in RETURN ("Does Sir Charles Litton have a swimming peul?"), as the assassin in drag at the Oktoberfest in STRIKES AGAIN who gets impaled on the giant pretzel, as the Hong Kong police chief with Herbert Lom in REVENGE, as the assassin who plants the time bomb on Ted Wass' taxi in CURSE, and as the Deputy Police Chief in SON who does the memorable spit-take. When I interviewed him via email a few years ago, I asked why Mr. Maranne did not return as Francois in SON and was told he had died just prior to the film entering production.

he was in the battle of britain and the james bond film thunderball I found this website after watching Fawlty Towers (1975, episode 5 of 6) on BBC2 earlier this evening and wondering if Andre Maranne was still alive. He used to live in my town, Hove, East Sussex, during the 90s. Andre occasionally walked through St. Ann's Wells Gardens accompanied by a lady who may have been his carer because he did look a little frail and aged. (That's the park where I regularly played tennis). I remember once bumping into him (in around 1999) in Ship Street, Brighton. On recognising who he was, I shook his hand and excitedly exclaimed: " I remember you in 'The Battle of Britain' film". He amusingly replied with a broad smile: " I played more famous roles than the radio operator ( in B.of B.) !". As to exactly when he passed away, I cannot say - or even find the answer. R.I.P.

As a relative of Mr. Maranne, I can tell you that he is still alive and still living in Brighton. How is Mr. Maranne going these days? Is he well? I would be very interested to know Mr. Maranne’s date of birth, if you’re comfortable with sharing it. Only the year, 1926, is acknowledged on Mr. Maranne’s online pages, not the month or the day.
