since 1963 - due largely, i'm sure, to the success of the PP cartoon shorts - the Pink Panther Theme Song has been hugely popular... the song has appeared in the titles and end credits of 8 of the 10 films in the PP series, and also recurs in the scores of several of the films... my question to you is: which film makes the best use of the Pink Panther Theme in the film proper (i.e. not including titles/credits versions)??
i'm having a hard time picking which one to vote for, myself, but for me, it's between TPP63, TRetOTPP, and TPP06...
in TPP63, the theme primarily accompanied the scenes where The Phantom was sneaking around (both with Simone and after the diamond)… likewise, my memory of the theme in TRetOTPP is primarily from its use in the scene where the diamond is stolen (though I seem to recall it being used a few other less memorable scenes, as well)… and finally, TPP06 made good use of the theme, with memorable moments including the bit where Clouseau thinks someone has broken into his apartment, the more triumphant version when Clouseau enters the doors of the Waldorph Astoria, and the techo re-mixed version when 006 takes out the Gas Mask Bandits (my one fear being that they almost over-used the PP theme in this movie - I’m a bit torn, though, because although Beck used the theme more often than previous films, it was always tasteful/respectful, IMO, and explored the theme in new styles)…
i don't know, pressed for an answer, if i could actually choose between these three... i might have to go with the original just because it's the original and set the mark, but those other two definitely make good runs at it, IMO... the remaining 5 films, however don't even come close to these three, for me...
what do the rest of you think?
