similar to my question in the Personnel section about which actor was 2nd best to Sellers as Clouseau, i'm wondering, which Panther film that didn't feature Peter Sellers as Clouseau was your favorite??? for me, it's the newest one...

PP 2006, of course. The thing that Martin got right is that Clouseau was kinda mean. Begnini, while immensely talented and funny, is more of a 'happy clown', so I don't think his worked as well.

Inspector Clouseau: I thought it was a nice change to see someone new as Closueau (even though he was not as funny)

Sellers' Clouseau had a little more of a mean streak, such as when he would chew out Hercule in A Shot in the Dark, or when he broke the priceless Steinway instead of apologizing he just says "Not anymore.", i.e. "That's a priceless Steinway!" Or when he cheats to get the last hit in on Cato. I think its most noticeable in A Shot in the Dark

Exactly, ASITD is my favorite film in the series. I like that Blatty, pre EXORCIST, wrote the screenplay. Herbert Lom's phone call to his mistress, interrupted by his wife is a high point in farcicial acting.

Come ON! The new Panther film is ridiculously bad. It doesn't feel Panther, it doesn't smell Panther, and no one in it doesn't act like they're in a Panther film. And on top of that, Steve Martin provides his career with an all time low performance. Could he have BEEN any WORSE!
Bad, bad Panther film...

I disagree; I found this one to be the funniest non-Sellers PP film yet. Martin did a great job making the character his own while still sticking to the basic feel of Clouseau. No one in it doesn't act like they are in Pink Panther film? That's a double negative. Does that mean that everyone in it acts like they are in a Pink panther film?

I don't see how could the new PP could make anyone laugh, as the majority of the jokes were just cheap, silly jokes, like the sexual innuedo between Martinseau (sorry, can't bring myself writing Clouseau on Martin's character) and his secretary, the "who cares?" line and all that.
The 2006 TRAVESTY EDITION is really, really a bad film...

I love silly. Fro Pete's sake, I love Monty Python, too.
But PANTHER 2006 is just not good, not at all...

Son of the Pink Panther, because I really liked the idea of Clouseau having a son, and how that son was such a nice, fun-loving, yet bumbling character. He acted a lot like his father, but not exactly like him.
The only thing I hated about that movie was the inexplicable romance of Dreyfus and Maria Gambrelli. It seemed to happen way too fast, and was unbelievable and unnecessary.

i agree the romance between Dreyfus and Maria was a bit surprising, and wasn't set up well... the other thing that always bugged me, though, was Benigni's over-acting... maybe that sounds weird coming from me, since a lot of folks would say Steve Martin over-acted his Clouseau as well, but i literally got to the point where every time Benigni said, "That felt guuuud!" it made me cringe... to be fair, by the end of TPP06, i was starting to cringe at Martin's "Nice weather we are having"... there is just a limit to how many times you can re-use the same gag in a movie!

Steve Martin is embarrasing as Clouseau, Robert Benigni isn't, as Jr. Thats speaks for itself.
