I was shocked to read today that George Sanders played Mr. Freeze in two episodes of the Batman TV Series in 1966. I've always known him as Benjamin Ballon and haven't seen him in anything else but he's an interesting choice to play the character. I can't picture him in the role. I've ordered the series on eBay -they're not official but I've been wanting to see them for years.
To anyone who's seen it - how does he compare to the other two TV Mr. Freezes?
i have the entire series taped from TV, so i may have to go back and look up those episodes... Sanders was the first Mr. Freeze of the series, if i remember right, and the 2nd episode of the two-parter is one of my favorite Mr. Freeze episodes... i think i actually liked Otto Preminger's portrayal of Mr. Freeze a lot better, but it's been so long since i've seen either one, maybe i'll just have to re-watch all those episodes so i can post a better critique...
I was reading that Preminger was supposedly really horrible on set. It was a scene where Adam West tries to pull him up from the floor but Preminger held on as tight as he could, so West could not lift him up. How was Eli Wallach's version?
to be honest, i don't really remember Wallach's Mr. Freeze, hardly at all - must not have made a very big impression on me, eh?! - but like i said, i'll try to re-watch all these episodes, and i'll post more on them sometime soon...
at least none of them was as bad as Arnold Schwarzenegger!
Well I watched those two episodes. My favorutie of the series yet and George Sanders was terrific. He's definetly my favourite villain in the series. He also put on a great German accent. I really love the show.
